Biography

Mario D. Caldararo, MD, is an infectious disease-trained intensivist. He earned his medical degree from Drexel University College of Medicine, completed residency in internal medicine and the medical education pathway at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, completed fellowship in infectious disease at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, and completed fellowship in critical care medicine at Yale New Haven Hospital.

He has an intense interest in medical education, the evolution of medical thinking, and the psychosocial forces that sometimes mask subjectivity for objectivity. Pathognomonic Signs of Disease grew out of a personal obsession to catalogue findings that many seem to accept without question, and to respectfully challenge the authority of the masters through the very art they taught.

Dr. Caldararo trained in internal medicine at the height of the opioid epidemic in Philadelphia, in infectious disease when COVID-19 first hit New York City, and in critical care medicine when the delta wave had the world wondering if the pandemic would ever end. He has published research articles and a book, given lectures, and taught countless medical students and residents.
